What is personal project?
Personal project is a journey of self discovery and self analysis. The product itself is a
mere piece of the journey towards completion. The body of this endeavor is the
process; including, creating your own grading criteria and writing the
process journal. This project is required by the International
Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. The goal is to
teach the skills needed to develop in-depth
knowledge of a self-determined subject.

IMPASTO ART WORK

introduction to my personal project
This year I worked on creating a painting that represents the style and technique
of impasto artists. At first glance it may seem that this was a simple task,
in reality there were many pitfalls that made this a challenging feat. As a child, painting was one of my
many hobbies. The impasto art style was new to me. Had I not explored these techniques, I would not have been able
to understand the difficulties that came along with this venture. I typically do art pieces that don't have textures
and just lay flat, so this was a learning experience for me. It was evident that I had not worked in this style
before, because in my first two attempts the paint fell back down and laid flat.
Not good for an aspiring impasto artist like myself. With the help of my supervisor, Ms. Char, I was able
to use mediums to ensure that my paint was able to stay raised and
create the textures I wanted.
